We offer a traditional personalised service to our clients. We have an enviable reputation for high standards of professional conduct and community involvement. We offer a broad range of legal services to our clients in an area that encompasses not only the Cairns and environs communities, communities on the Atherton Tablelands and southern areas but a geographic area that covers the length and breadth of the Cape York Peninsula. Where do we come from? Our firm has been around for quite a while. Farrellys has been serving the North Queensland region from Cairns to the hinterlands and the Cape since its inception in 1962, when our founder Laurence [Laurie] Farrelly moved from Townsville and opened the doors of his sole practice in Cairns. Laurie established a significant legal practice over the ensuing years, with a practice as diverse in area as it was in geography. For many years, Laurie traveled to Thursday Island to conduct criminal cases where the District Court sat in one of the most picturesque Court rooms in Queensland, with sweeping verandahs overlooking the Coral Sea. From these early beginnings, the practice expanded and the firm continues to service a client base as far north as Thursday Island and throughout the remote areas of North Queensland The firm expanded to a partnership in 1983 when Laurie took in three of his employed solicitors, Clem Taft, Terry Newman and Peter Nilsson as partners. Clem remains a Partner at Farrellys. Laurie continued his association with the firm as a Consultant and by continuing to perform his duties as a Notary Public regularly until his death on 9th June 1996. The firm has continued to grow both in its areas of practice and in the number of fine practitioners joining the firm. Laurie's vision of maintaining a practice that focused always on a practical outcome for the client at a reasonable cost has been the benchmark of the practice throughout the years. Too large and diverse to be classified as a boutique firm, the client base has expanded over 45 years to continue to provide legal services to a broad cross-section of the community. |
